Green Technology - March 13-14, FAST, near Frankfurt, Germany
This program
introduces Fulbrighters and DAAD grantees to research and job opportunities in the German State of Hessen - especially those related to green business,
engineering, renewable energy, etc.. Partners are Hessen Ministry of Higher Education, Research & the Arts, DAAD, Uni Kassel, TU Darmstadt and FAST.
The program (including food and accommodation) is essentially free, courtesy of the sponsors. We are seeking speakers for Friday afternoon in Darmstadt and

Academic & Scientific Exchanges with North Africa/Muslim World - FAST, May 19-21, Denver, Colorado
FAST is working
with US Federal Agencies, Denver-area universities and the Libyan Student Union on a three day conference to discuss progress in
academic and scientific exchanges during the past five years and develop recommendations to improve the exchanges. The
science discussion will focus on water and energy-related topics. Participants include 70 Libyan graduate students (mostly mid-career professionals), staff
from international exchange offices at US universities, water & energy experts, and high-level government officials from the US and Libya. We are

International Educators Conference - May 20-24, NAFSA, Los Angeles, CA
The Annual NAFSA
Conference brings some 10,000 participants together for a week of seminars, meetings, discussions and exchange. In 2008, FAST had a booth at the conference.
For 2009, FAST is working with several institutional members and supporters on a program of particular interest those in science and technology
fields.. We are seeking individuals who will be attending NAFSA so that we can coordinate the program. Please contact FAST for

International Chemistry Education - August 16-20, American Chemical Society, Washington, DC
A new FAST
member is organizing a symposium at the ACS Annual Conference. "Collaborations between scientists often transcend borders and cultural differences. The
fundamental nature of science allows scientists to communicate using their knowledge of their field but the institutions that support them are often hindered
by financial and cultural barriers. As a result, US students are often unaware of opportunities for chemistry study in countries other than the United States .
This symposium will discuss ways in which barriers to cross-cultural scientific exchange can be lowered." We are seeking papers on
international exchange programs, classroom methods, and international experiences. In particular, authors from organizations with a vested interest in chemists
with a global perspective are encouraged to present. Please contact FAST for

Environmental History - August 4-8, WCEH2009, Copenhagen, Denmark
The First World
Congress on Environmental History will explore topics such as environmental perceptions, historical geography, agricultural/land-use history, forest policy,
disease & pollution and cross-disciplinary research. FAST is working with Fulbright alumni to host a program during the Congress. Abstracts
for papers are due by April 20. www.wceh2009.org

Combating Counterfeiting - Sept.30-Oct.2, FAST, Salzburg, Austria
This global
conference explores science and policy efforts to combat counterfeiting in fields such as pharmaceuticals, food, digital media, consumer goods and crime
prevention. The conference will explore new techniques while also providing key background information to individuals who aren't experts but "should"
know more about the subject because they work in fields that are increasingly being impacted by counterfeit products.. Some speakers have been
identified, but we are seeking additional speakers and participants are from enforcement agencies, the private sector and the research and education community.

IT Policy for Education Summit - Oct. 11-14, MICDL, Northport, ME
This summit will
address how the digital revolution is transforming K-12 education. It will bring together policymakers and leading experts from around the world to
develop a blueprint for large-scale change. It is being held in Maine, which was the first jurisdiction in the world to guarantee that each middle-school child
had a laptop computer. FAST is working with the conference convener to identify speakers and participants. http://www.micdl.org/

Antarctica Treaty Summit - Nov.30-Dec.3, Washington, DC
This summit will
assess the legacy of the 1959 Antarctic Treaty on the 50th Anniversary of its signing, exploring science-policy interaction in international governance. It
will be a multi-national, multidisciplinary program held at the Smithsonian. We are seeking speakers and participants with expertise in Antarctica, polar

INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERS & SPONSORS:
FAST's ties to other institutions continue to grow, with nearly 100 institutional members and sponsors in 2008.
Recent members and supporters include the University of South Florida, Palm Beach Community College, Microsoft, Reddog Software, Maine Medical
Center, Boston College, the University of Southern Maine, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
As an example, our 2009 Annual Conference is in
Macedonia on March 24-27, with support from Ss Cyril & Methodius University, FON University, University American College, Seavus Group, Macedonian
Enterprise Development Foundation, and others. We are expecting Fulbright alumni and guests from 15 countries at the program, which will highlight new
technologies and innovations coming from smaller countries - places that may not get to the front-page of international media but have ideas that are

Institutional membership is $500 for institutions of higher education and
