Creating a Deeper Dialogue on Sustainability:

To: [First Name will go here] [Last Name will go here],

The Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology (FAST) is pleased to announce its next program: the FAST-ISE Forum on Human Values & Sustainability, hosted by the Institute for Sustainable Enterprise in Madison, NJ, with support from the Aspen Institute, Collins Family Foundation, Whole Foods Market, and others.

Having completed our successful conference on Sustainability last week in San Francisco, this forum will bring our sustainability discussion to the US East Coast. Three leading sustainability organizations have joined together to create a deeper conversation about business and sustainability: FAST, the Aspen Institute, along with the Institute for Sustainable Enterprise.  The one-day Forum on “Human Values and Sustainability” is on April 13, 2010, at the Madison Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University
(one hour by train from NYC-Penn Station).  The Forum is open to all - it is not limited to Fulbrighters, Fulbright hosts or friends of FAST.

The Forum features several outstanding business speakers and a highly participative design. The major speakers are:
  • Jeffrey Hollender, President of Seventh-Generation, Burlington, Vermont
  • Robert Sebbag, V.P. for Access to Medicine, Sanofi-aventis, France
  • Arturo Condo, President of INCAE, a top-ten international graduate business school, Costa Rica
Panelists will further enrich the dialogue by providing different avenues of inquiry into cutting edge sustainability issues. The program also includes small-group discussions so that the participants can learn from the experience of others. The highly interactive roundtable format promises to generate new perspectives, networks, strategies, and actions.

We invite you to join Fulbright scholars and other organization leaders and the sponsoring organizations in creating the future of sustainability.
Registration for current Fulbright grantees is $100, with higher rates for academic and business communities. Dues-paying members of FAST get a $25 discount on the registration. For more details, please visit www.fulbrightacademy.org/page/FAST-ISE/

FAST's Fifth Annual Conference
Our Annual Conference was held last week in San Francisco, bringing together nearly 200 Fulbrighters and guests to participate in one or more activities spread out over five days. The program included a Film Festival, two dinners, six panel discussions, six tours, three board meetings/strategy sessions with members and two "Sunday Seminars" to help launch FAST Entrepreneurs and the FAST Global Health Initiative.

Many ideas for follow-up activities were presented and discussed, and a group of FAST advisors will be recommending the next steps. If you would like to become a member of this advisory council, please reply to this email.

Part of the success of the conference came about because our sponsors and partners provided over $25,000 in sponsorships and donated in-kind services.  2010 sponsors included Aspera, Bovin Winery, Campbell Soup, Creative Industry Law Group, Google, Hunton & Williams, Monsanto, Rosetta Stone, Sigma Xi, Two Friends Imports, US National Park Service, and Whole Foods Market. We also recognize several universities that sent three or more people to the conference: Loyola Marymount University, San Francisco State University, Syracuse University and Wilson College.

Cash contributions from individual alumni, combined with the sponsorships, made it possible for FAST to provide steeply discounted registrations to more than 20% of the attendees. Three Fulbrighters with strong ties to Brazil, Cyprus, and Honduras even worked with FAST to identify young Fulbrighters from each of those countries and then covered part of their participation costs.  As a result, the participants came from thirty-three countries, and
a broad range of backgrounds were represented.

If you are already working on your budget for thande 2010-11 fiscal year, please note that the FAST 2011 Conference is scheduled for March 16-19, 2011 in Heidelberg, Germany.  The theme for 2011 is Social Sciences.  We look forward to seeing you there.
