About the Academy

Welcome to the Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology

For sixty years, Fulbright scholars have been advising businesses, governments, and other organizations on a broad range of science and technology issues.  Since its creation in 1946, the goal of the exchange program has been to honor top scientists and promising young professionals by providing opportunties to conduct research and share their knowledge, while also serving a broader public interest - increasing mutual understanding among nations.

A grass-roots organization established by alumni of that exchange program, the Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology (FAST) continues that dual mission. FAST started operations in 2003 as a volunteer-based initiative.  Since then, we have grown to be a fully-staffed non-profit 501-c-3 organization.  In December 2006, FAST had individual and institutional members in 37 countries and 41 states and Washington, DC. (Click here for our Fourth Annual Report - 2006 - PDF file)

In early 2005, the Academy launched a three-year $500,000 fundraising campaign, with funds coming from memberships, grants, contracts, and donations.  Nearly half of the goal has been reached as of July 2006 (the half-way point in the campaign).

On this website you can find information about the Fulbright Exchange Program, who is on our board of directors and a partial listing of members and supporters. The Fulbright Academy is not involved in the selection of scholars or the management of Fulbright exchanges.

Many of our activities are outlined in the programs section of this website.  Other activities are highlighted in the newsletter.  For information about our community of members, our programs, and joining the Academy, click on the icons at the top of your screen.  In the section "Stories," you will find a searchable collection of personal profiles, essays and other material on the work and accomplishments of Fulbrighters from around the world.
